Greetings from Egypt!

We had a fun day yesterday touring the pyramids, the sphinx, and Mohammed Ali's mosque--not the boxer--but some famous guy in Egyptian history. We had dinner on a boat with a little band and a dang cute belly dancer. The bad part was the 3 hour drive getting there and the 3 hours back, but the guide, Hassan, lectured about Egyptian history and told about the scenery, so it went pretty fast. Cairo is really a run-down place with lots of slums. The buildings are all the color of dirt and in need of much repair. We saw tons of vacant lots with piles of dirt, rocks, and garbage. I saw at least 3 goat-herders herding their goats while they ate on the garbage piles.

It was totally different from any of the scenery in Spain, Greece, or Turkey. I wouldn't want to live there, but the history of the place and the pyramids were amazing!

More from Malta in a couple of days.

Ta Pip!

  1. Ruby, looks like you and Wally are enjoying your travels. Good on ya.... It's quite the reality check isn't it? Why would any one want to live in those conditions? Of course we have those type of conditions right here on this side of the water.......Continue to enjoy your trip , stay safe. krd

  2. What memories those pictures bring back from when we were there in the 50's. Not a whole lot of change (well, except for cell phones, etc.) Did you two ride on the camels?

Continue to enjoy all you see and do, hear and smell.
